Recently legalized in Canada, in-play-betting allows sports bettors to place bets at many time points throughout a sports event. Thus, the exercise of self-control is even more difficult among sports betters placing in-play-bets than among typical casino gamblers.
Together with Andrew Kim and Dan McGrath (Psychology, University of Calgary), I am exploring factors that make it difficult for sports bettors to exercise self-control in placing in-play-bets. We are also trying to identify responsible gambling practices that are effective in sports bettors playing within limits and those that are not effective.
